FILMS FOR FALL

Get your popcorn ready. Here’s a look at the 26 biggest flicks on offer between now and the end of November

MARK DANIELL

For movie fans coming out of a summer that saw many releases delayed until later in the year, the next few months are going to be so packed with choice that it's going to seem like July at your local cinema.

After being moved around several times since its original April 2020 release date was impacted by the coronavirus, Daniel Craig's final outing as suave British super spy James Bond is finally slated to hit theatres next month along with other major films that were stricken by pandemic delays, including a new Halloween, a

Sopranos prequel, and an anticipated adaptation of

Dune.

Worried about the raging Delta variant, some tentpoles have been shifted to next year, with Tom Cruise's Top Gun: Maverick leading the pack.

But with audiences finally ready to come back to theatres, some studios seem ready to plow ahead with a slate that ranges from superheroes (Venom and Eternals) to prestige drama (Will Smith in

King Richard and Lady Gaga in

House of Gucci) and the venerable Clint Eastwood.

At 91, the Oscar winner returns in Cry Macho (in theatres this weekend) as a former rodeo rider who is given the task of going down to Mexico City to retrieve a 13-year-old boy.

The long march toward awards season will get another push thanks to Jessica Chastain's acclaimed portrayal of Tammy Faye Bakker in the colourful biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye (also in theatres now).
