City police officer faces two charges
An Edmonton Police Service officer has been charged with attempted obstruction of justice and commissioning a false affidavit in connection to a public health complaint and subsequent internal investigation. Constable Joseph Spear, an Edmonton officer with 22 years of service, is facing two criminal charges in connection to a complaint brought to police in 2020, according to a Tuesday release from police. It was alleged that Spear commissioned an affidavit that bore a forged signature. An internal investigation by the EPS professional standards branch was launched. The matter was referred to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.
