Lack of nocturnal speed enforcement

I hope I am not giving away any Edmonton Police Service traffic-enforcement secrets, but it appears that trafficspeed enforcement by the EPS ends each day at sunset.

I live in the Oliver area just off Jasper Avenue. I also travel and visit frequently in the Whyte Avenue district. Most days after sunset the roadways (primarily Jasper and Whyte Avenues) turn into what sounds like the Castrol Speedway. Cars and motorcycles race and roar down these roadways and over the bridges from sunset until the early hours of the morning.

It's a race from stop light to stop light by these hot cars and motor bikes in a quest to see who is quickest and loudest. I hear them for blocks as the roar and whine of their engines fade into the night.

I can't help but think “where are the cops?” Are they deaf, asleep, or just unable to match the speed of these vehicles?
