Girl, 8, dragged by mom’s car

A girl in California was dragged by a car driven by her mother as the 8-yearold attempted to stop the woman from drinking and driving, police say.

Placentia Police said they answered a call about a possible assault around 11:35 p.m. Thursday and found a child with abrasions to her legs and feet.

The girl, who was with her grandmother when officers arrived, sustained the injuries when her intoxicated mother left the house, according to police.

The concerned child had grabbed the passenger door handle and begged her mom, Erin Garcia of Placentia, Calif., not to drive.

“Garcia looked at the child and proceeded to drive away, dragging her child alongside the vehicle for approximately 300 feet,” police alleged.

A bystander saw what happened and both he and the girl’s grandmother attempted to get Garcia out of the car after she stopped.

The man was also dragged before Garcia drove off.

Officers eventually found Garcia hiding nearby behind some bushes in her mother’s backyard.

She allegedly kicked officers as they tried to take her into custody.

Garcia has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment and battery against a peace officer.

Her daughter and the bystander were both treated in hospital for their “moderate injuries,” police said.
