WHY VICTORY SPEECH SOUNDED SO FAMILIAR.

The 2021 election effectively gave us the 2019 result. Maybe that was why Justin Trudeau recycled parts of his 2019 victory speech for the one he gave early Tuesday morning. Here’s a comparison of parts of the two speeches.

DIVISION 2019

“From coast to coast, tonight, Canadians

rejected division and negativity.”

2021

“Some have talked about division, but that’s not what I see. That’s not what I’ve seen these past weeks, across the country. I

see Canadians, standing together.”

TRUST US 2019

To those who voted for our party, thank you for putting your trust in our team. Thank you for having faith in us to move this country in the right direction. And to those who did not vote for us, know that

we will work every single day for you.

2021

If you voted for our party, thank you. Thank you for putting your trust in our team to keep moving forward for everyone. And if you did not vote for us, I want you to know that we will stand up for you

and work for you every single day.

IT’S AN HONOUR 2019

And of course, to my fellow Canadians. It has been the greatest honour of my life

to serve you for these past four years.

2021

And to my fellow Canadians, there is no greater honour than serving

you and serving this country.

A CLEAR MANDATE 2019

You are sending us to Ottawa with a clear mandate. Continue to go forward

and to move this country forward.

2021

You are sending us back to work with a clear mandate to get Canada through this pandemic, and to the brighter days ahead.

SOPHIE’S CHOICE 2019

(Sophie) we began this political adventure together ten years ago because we

believed in a better future, because we knew that it was worthwhile fighting for a better, more prosperous Canada. Sophie, I

love you.

2021

(Sophie) 12 years ago when we decided to be involved together in politics, it’s because we wanted to defend our values, because we wanted to contribute to build a stronger Canada. And since the beginning,

we did that together. Thank you.

LAURIER 2019

One of my favourite prime ministers, Wilfrid Laurier, often talked about patriotism and the unifying power of common

goals and aspirations.

2021

I think of something prime minister Wilfrid Laurier said as his generation was at the dawn of a new century. He said: “Let them look to the past, but let them still

more look to the future.”
