Taste of Wellington West

Taste of Wellington West: Inside Out Edition is back, running from Sept. 21 to Oct. 31.

“When we say ‘taste’ we are celebrating food, but we are also celebrating the taste of the neighbourhood,” said Dennis Van Staalduinen, executive director of the Wellington West BIA. “It has a different flavour. It’s quirky, it has lots of culture, it’s a community of communities. Instead of doing a one-day event, we’re treating it as a season of celebration. Spacing people out, spacing out the events, giving people lots of opportunities.”

This year the event will run partially in-person and partially in a virtual format. In-person events range from comedy nights with five family-friendly comedians in Parkdale Park to jazz

nights with artist An Nguyen doing a live painting while everyone is listening to Petr Cancura-Garrett Warner duo perform. From cooking demos to Halloween parties, the season of celebrating should have something for everyone.

“Parkdale Food Centre is our permanent charity partner,” said Staalduinen. “Every year we try to raise more and more money for them. This year our target is $7,500; hopefully we can blow that out of the water. Throughout the festival, for the in-person events, we will have donation jars, but we are also encouraging people to donate to the online campaign.”
