One person was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation as firefighters doused a fire at a commercial building on York St., on Tuesday.
Ottawa Fire Services fielded multiple 911 calls starting at 11:46 a.m. reporting that a dryer was on fire in the basement of the three-storey building.
A dispatcher told one caller, who was still inside the building, to get out and stayed on the line with them until they were outside.
Arriving firefighters found smoke on the first floor of the building and heavy smoke and flames in the basement.
Crews had the fire under control at 11:58 a.m. and opened windows and set up fans to clear the smoke.
A fire investigator was sent to the scene to determine the cause.
