Surprised city staff made right decision

Since city staff too often give in to special interest groups and vocal minorities without due consideration for the need or the cost, it was with some surprise and approval that I read that city staff recommended against expanding licensing rules to cover all rental units, City staff balks at rental licences (Sept. 21) Council should ensure that tax dollars are prioritized and spent wisely.

I suggest that the city use a fraction of the money it will save by not hiring 37 additional housing inspectors on a publicity campaign to inform tenants that they have the right to file complaints with the city if the apartments they occupy are sub-standard or unsafe.
