Wider roads just lead to more cars
Car is convenient, alternatives aren't (Sept. 17), Ken Minshull argues against the city's efforts to encourage bicycle use. There are two problems with his argument.
I ride a bike and find it very convenient. The other problem is more pernicious.
If the city offers no good alternatives to cars, then streets will be filled with cars, and the city will respond by widening roadways. A look at Houston, Texas on Google Street View will show what happens when cars rule cities.
