WOOD SCULPTURES ON EXHIBIT
Joe Belanger
The art of a self-taught wood sculptor is the focus of a new Art with panache exhibition. Works by artist Frank (Paco) Pereira, a Spanish-born immigrant to Canada, will be featured at the London gallery until Friday.
“The amazing variations in the hues of the wood, radiate such warmth,” said Mary Lillyman, the gallery's artistic director.
“The subjects range from sailboats, to bowls and trays, to the organ at Notre Dame (cathedral) and a large platform shoe called Lady Gaga. His work definitely reflects a spirit and creative power beyond extraordinary.”
Pereira grew up in Portugal before moving to Canada in the early 1970s. The one-time cabinet maker first sculpted with marble and stone before settling on wood.
The gallery at 140 Fullarton St. is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
