96-year-old unable to vote for first time in his life

This is the first time in my 96-plus years that I haven't been able to vote. I live in an assisted living/retirement complex with about 140 others. An advanced poll was held here about a week or so ago — but I knew I'd be here and waited until today (Sept. 20) to cast my ballot.

When I went to vote, with card and proof of citizenship in hand, I was told I should have done so at the advanced poll. There was no intimation to that effect and so my candidate has lost one vote.

Our desk clerk said to go to the community centre. All well and good if I were 69 instead of 96 — with chronic lung disease, heart and renal failure, plus two patched-up femurs.

It's doubtful that I will be able to vote again. Oh, well, that's life and I suppose some will say, “Why didn't you do this or that?”

I'm tired.
