Chilling find in freezer
— Kevin Connor
It is a real cold case.
Miriam Travis, 87, a retired homicide detective in Los Angeles, was found in a freezer in the home she shared with her daughter.
Travis hadn’t been heard from for two months and relatives had police go to the home Sunday for a welfare check.
Relatives identified the body as Travis, the Press Enterprise reported.
Travis’ daughter, identified as Carol, was questioned by police and released.
Police said she gave them inconsistent statements as to where her mother was.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office hasn’t officially identified the body.
The L.A. County sheriff’s representative said Miriam Travis worked in the homicide bureau from 1979 to ’90.
Once retired, she moved to the house in Riverside with her husband until he died two years later. Travis and her daughter became reclusive.
