Chang’s tips
Hey, give someone else a turn to talk! Extroverts would be wise to take Jill Chang’s tips:
■ Try to give a heads-up first before things happen. For example, try to send a meeting agenda, discussion points and background information and materials before the meeting or discussion.
■ Allow flexibility even in supposedly very straightforward situations such as group discussions. For example, it’s always nice to say, “if you have any other thoughts, please feel free to share them with me via email by 5 p.m. today.” It removes the pressure for introverts to speak up in a group.
■ Pause for five seconds to listen to what the introverts have to offer before starting to lead the conversation.
