The Detroit Tigers moved another step closer to respectability on Tuesday.

Detroit has not finished a season with a .500 or better record since 2016, but now sit four games off that mark after a 5-3 win over the Central Division-leading Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park.

“I think our team finds ways to win,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said after his team improved to 74-78. “We put pressure on the opponent. We keep staying in there. We have no fear. We may make a mistake or two, but it's OK because we're going to keep coming at you and, to me, that's a proud feeling as a manager to have a team that buys in like that.”

The win was the Tigers' eighth in the last 11 games. The victory completed a two-game sweep of the series for Detroit, which has faced a division leader for four straight series. Over that stretch, the Tigers have beaten American League East Division-leading Tampa Bay, National League Central Division-leading Milwaukee and the White Sox, along with a four-game series split with Tampa on the road.

“That's a good sign that we're able to beat those guys that are in first place,” said Tigers outfielder Daz Cameron, who went 3-for-3 with a walk and scored twice on Tuesday.

“It's a good look for us out there. We've put in the work to show it and we're executing the things we've been working on before the game and up to it.”

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning, rookie outfielder Akil Baddoo drove in Detroit's first run with an RBI single off left-hander Dallas Keuchel.

The left-handed-hitting Baddoo added another RBI single in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2.

WINGS ADD RYAN

Forward Bobby Ryan will get another chance to revive his career with the Detroit Red Wings.

The 34-year-old Ryan, who was the No. 2 pick overall in the 2005 NHL draft, signed a professional tryout contract with the Red Wings on Tuesday and will join the team for the start of training camp Thursday.

Ryan signed a one-year deal with the Red Wings last season and had four goals in his first three games, but his season ended in late March and he required triceps surgery in April.
