School zone speeders nabbed

MEGAN GILLIS

A police officer stationed outside a Chelsea school Monday nabbed eight speeders in about two hours, including high milers clocked at 74 and 84 km/h.

The speed limit is 30 km/h in front of Grand-boisé school on Scott Rd., but speeds among the lead-footed drivers ticketed Monday started at 60 km/h.

“Please for the safety of our children and yours, reduce your speed,” MRC des Collinesde-l'outaouais police said Tuesday.

A 58-year-old man from Low received an $812 ticket and 10 demerit points, and his driver's licence was suspended for seven days.

A 21-year-old Gatineau man lost his driver's licence for seven days and was hit with a $540 ticket and six demerit points.

“Our police officers continue to be present in the territory and school areas at the beginning of the year,” police said.
