City cop charged
— Allison Pelech
An Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officer has been charged with attempted obstruction of justice and commissioning a false affidavit in connection to a 2020 public health complaint and subsequent investigation.
Const. Joseph Spear, an EPS member with 22 years of service, is facing two criminal charges, said a Tuesday release from police.
It is alleged Spear commissioned an affidavit that bore a forged signature.
The Crown recommended charges when an internal investigation by the EPS professional standards branch was complete.
Spear remains on active duty in a non-frontline role pending resolution of court proceedings.
