THE SLIPPERY SLOPE

Re: No private parties; Durham Region mandates contact tracing for gatherings in people's homes, column, Sept. 16

I believe that everyone should be vaccinated. It's a health issue, and, if you do not want the vaccine, you will have to live with the restrictions it will put on your life. Did I mention it's a health issue? The new rules for Durham Region as reported by Anthony Furey are disturbing, to say the least.

We have restrictions on how many people you can have at an indoor gathering. If someone calls and complains that you have 30 more than the limit, the police will investigate and you will be fined if you are found to have breached the limit. OK, think of it as a “health bylaw.” But to be forced to keep a written log of the personal contact info on anyone and everyone who visits your home on pain of a $5,000 fine if not supplied to health department within 24 hours is way over wrong!

This is the bottom of the proverbial “slippery slope” in contact tracing. Businesses do so to inform customers of a health hazard, but this rule is to inform on your guests and yourself.

DON MCHUGH OTTAWA

(Things are getting a bit out of hand.)
