MANULIFE TAPS LUCAS FOR BANKING UNIT AS LUNNY RETIRES
Manulife Financial Corp. promoted Alex Lucas to chief executive of the firm’s banking unit, succeeding Rick Lunny, who is retiring at the end of next month. Lucas, currently head of individual insurance for Manulife Canada, will be CEO and president of Manulife Bank starting in March, according to a memo Tuesday from Mike Doughty, head of Manulife Canada. Paul Savage, head of product and pricing for individual insurance, will lead the individual-insurance business on an interim basis until a permanent replacement for Lucas is found, Doughty said. Lucas has led the individual insurance business since 2014 and helped modernize the unit with the Manulife Vitality health-tracking and rewards app. Lunny has led Manulife Bank for more than seven years.
